28 June 2013

Over 8,000 kilometres of roads and 450 bridges are under repair in Angola as part of the programme to rebuild road infrastructure, the Minister for Construction Waldemar Pires Alexandre said Thursday in Luanda.

At a meeting with the Minister for Africa of the United Kingdom Foreign Ministry, Marks Simmonds, the Angolan minister noted that infrastructure construction was one of the priorities for the current term of office and is included in the 2013/1017 national development programme.

Cited by Angolan news agency Angop, the Construction Minister said that the country’s road network had been renewed and that this had improved development prospects across the country.

Waldemar Pires Alexandre added that the Construction Ministry’s work would also focus on basic infrastructure, public buildings, monuments and large engineering projects such as ports, airports, dams and various social facilities.

The UK Minister said that the United Kingdom planned to set up a partnership with Angola in the areas of civil construction, public works and supplying construction materials. (macauhub)
