12 July 2013

Tests of night lights on the runway of São Tomé’s international airport were successful and will enable international flights to operate with new schedules, STP Airways has announced.

The testing of night operations was carried out on Wednesday using a Dornier 228 aircraft used on regional STP Airways flights between São Tomé and Principe Island and on regional charters.

The airline indicated that the administrative process associated to the runway lighting will be finished by the end of the month and that São Tomé´s international airport should be ready to begin receiving night flights this August.

The terminal building has also been renovated and expanded. The new VIP rooms are finished and improvements are being made in other areas to benefit employees and especially passengers.

STP Airways flights are operated by EuroAtlantic Airways, a Portugal-registered company owned by Tomaz Metello and the Pestana group.

STP was constituted on 23 June 2008 with the following stakeholders: EuroAtlantic Airways (37 percent), the state of São Tomé and Principe (35 percent), Banco Equador (14 percent) and Golfo Internacional Air Service (14 percent). (macauhub)
