Angolan satellite Angosat due to be launched in 2016

9 August 2013

The ambassador for the Russian Federation to Angola, Dimitri Lobach said in Luanda that the first Angolan telecommunications satellite, Angosat, which is being built by Russia, will only be launched into space in 2016, after a year-long delay, Angolan news agency Angop reported.

The diplomat, who took part in a Russia-Angola business forum, said that construction of the satellite had restarted in December 2012 after the Rosecsimbank provided the Russian government with a loan of 37 billion kwanzas for work to continue.

Dimitri Lobach also said that over the next three years operations centres would be built in Moscow and Luanda.

The diplomat also said that initially Angolan technicians would be trained at the Moscow centre but that later they would return to Angola to operate the satellite from Luanda. (macauhub)
