European Union grants Mozambique US$67 million for agriculture and fishing

9 August 2013

The European Union (EU) programme “Accelerating Progress towards the Millennium Development Goals,” was launched Wednesday in Mozambique, one of the countries to benefit from the initiative, according to information from the organisation.

The EU programme is to be carried out by the Mozambican government with the support of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), the World Food Programme (WFP) and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).

In January 2012, the European Union selected Mozambique as one of the beneficiaries of the programme and assigned US$67 million to support projects to boost agricultural and fishing production and yields, improve access to food and improve levels of nutrition.

The UN agencies will support the programme’s execution in order to meet these goals by 2015. (macauhub)
