The Millennium Challenge Corporation (MMC) announced, in a statement issued Friday in Maputo that in September all financial support for projects in Mozambique would come to an end.
The MCC said that taking into consideration its regulations “there is no possible extension for funds” in Mozambique.
Five years ago the Mozambican authorities received a donation of around US$50 million to be used by September 2013 for road, water supply and agriculture projects in the provinces of Nampula, Niassa, Cabo Delgado and Zambézia.
The statement from the MCC said that “no activity that occurs after the established date (22 September 2013) for the aid package to end will be funded, with the exception of some activities exclusively related to the closure of the aid package, which will be extended until 20 January 2014.”
The MCA, a Mozambican state body set up to implement the fund’s programme has advised all services providers and contractors to send their invoices as “quickly as possible” for payments to be made. (macauhub)
