Angola’s next General Population and Housing Census, after the one in 2014, will only be carried out in 2020 and not five years later, for budget reasons, said the coordinator of the Technical Commission of the Central Census Office.
Paulo Fonseca also said that the 2014 Census would run from 16 to 31 May 2014, and technicians were carrying out preliminary cartographic work to harmonise and make the information collected on the ground more consistent.
According to Angolan news agency Angop, Fonseca added that everyone in Angola, even non-residents, would be included in the Census, and that all resident citizens, even if they are absent from the country in that period, would be registered.
“It is important to know the number of inhabitants, as well as all the babies and children so, for example, we can know where to build more schools and in what region a new hospital or health centre is needed most,” Fonseca said. (macauhub)
