Almost 13,000 tourists visit Sao Tome and Principe in 2012

29 August 2013

Sao Tome and Principe received 12,743 tourists in 2012, a 23 percent rise year on year, the Sao Tome and Principe Tourism director, José Vera Cruz said Thursday.

According to figures provided to Macauhub, Portugal was at the top of the 2012 list with 5,811 tourists, followed by Angola with 1,866 and France with 843 tourists.

The director for tourism said that the rise in the number of tourists was mainly due to visits from cruise ships from northern Europe and Oceania which pass by the archipelago in October, November and December.

He said that most visits were for holidays and leisure, as had also been the case in previous years.

The biggest number of tourists travels to Sao Tome and Principe on weekly flights run by TAP-Air Portugal and STP-Airways, the archipelago’s flagship airline. (macauhub)
