Mozambican mail company Correios de Moçambique to open postal bank

2 September 2013

Mozambican state mail company Correios de Moçambique plans to set up a Postal Bank, as part of a decision made Friday in Pemba, the capital of Cabo Delgado province, by the Transport and Communications Ministry.

Mozambican newspaper Notícias said that the announcement had been made by Minister Paulo Zucula, at the closing ceremony of the ministry’s coordinating council, held in Pemba, northern Mozambique.

The minister explained the decision with the need to provide banking services to the whole country, based on government guidelines.

The coordinating council also recommended the diversification of products and services, making use of existing facilities across the country, to offer additional options to the population and economic agents, such as hybrid mail and express mail, as well as development of real estate projects.
