The 26-kilometre road linking the city of Benguela to the municipality of Baía Farta, was re-opened to traffic on Saturday, as work to repair and widen it was concluded, Angolan news agency Angop reported.
Work on teh road was awarded to Brazilian construction company Odebrecht in September 2011 and cost US$92 million. The project included construction of bridges, rainwater drainage systems, and laying asphalt on the road.
The road now also has a central crash barrier, public lighting, specific stps for buses and taxis, crossings and road signs.
The road begins near the Kalunga roundabout, in Benguela, and goes as far as the town of Baía Farta. It is a main road linking the north and southwest of the province. (macauhub)
