Two Chinese delegations including over 40 businesspeople from Macau and Guangdong province Thursday visited the municipality of São João da Pesqueira, in northern Portugal, according to the area’s municipal council.

“The São João da Pesqueira Municipal Council is focusing on consolidating the relationship that has already been set up between this municipality and a number of entities from Macau and mainland China, at a time when the creation of a free trade area is under discussion for the Pearl River Delta, between Macau, Guangzhou and Hong Kong, alongside Closer Economic Partnership Agreements between the Chinese Mainland and Macau (CEPA 9+2) and Macau’s role as a cooperation platform between China and the Portuguese-speaking countries, through Forum Macau,” the statement said.

The members of the two delegations will visit some wineries and vineyards in the Douro region of Portugal and are due to meet with producers and distributors to explore investment opportunities, promote exports of regional products and boost cooperation between business associations from São João da Pesqueira and the Pearl River Delta region.

In the statement, the São João da Pesqueira Municipal Council said that it was due to take part in the Macau International Fair in October. (macauhub)
