The Cape Verdean government has secured a loan from Japan of US$165 million to install a single water distribution network on the island of Santiago, said the country’s minister for Tourism, Industry and Energy, Humberto Brito.
The minister added that execution of the long-awaited project was due to begin soon and would solve numerous water distribution problems on the island.
Brito also said that the problem of water distribution on Sal Island had been completely resolved as water was now distributed 24 hours a day, whilst on the island of São Vicente work was underway to improve water distribution.
Cited by the Cape Verdean press, the minister said that in 2014 the city of Praia would have water supply for 24 hours a day and that installing a single distribution network would substantially improve water supply to the population. (macauhub)
