Angola signs agreement with Emirates Group airline

2 December 2013

Angola’s National Civil Aviation Institute (Inavic) and Angolan airline Taag – Linhas Aéreas de Angola have signed an operational cooperation agreement with the Emirates Group of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the institute said in Luanda.

The agreement outlines two phases, the first of which is about opportunities in the short term, as part of operational and commercial cooperation between Taag and Emirates Airlines and the second sets out a strategic partnership between the two air carriers.

Taag and Emirates Airlines have identified four areas in which they can extend their cooperation, including training, passenger services, cargo services and the frequent-flyer programme.

The Transport Ministry in 2008 set out a strategy for Taag, with a view to positioning it as a market leader in terms of modernising air transport and associated services in Angola.

In 2008 Taag launched an extensive restructuring programme that resulted in a significant improvement in operating, commercial and organisational performance. This approach resolved the company’s most pressing problems and allowed it to make use of available opportunities.

The Angolan company is currently facing growing challenges that will require to implement best international practices and to improve its partnerships and relationships.

The Emirates Group is a world leader in the transport and tourism industries. It has two main subsidiaries: Emirates Airlines and air services company Dnata. (macauhub)
