Fishing production in Angola totalled 370,000 tons in 2013, or 16,000 tons more than in 2012, the Fishing Minister, Victória de Barros Neto told Angolan newspaper Jornal de Angola.
In 2013 there were a total of 205 officially-registered industrial and semi-industrial fishing vessels.
Artisanal fishing catches accounted for around 30 percent of the total caught in Angola. There are around 6,000 licensed artisanal fishing vessels in the country, which provide jobs for some 50,000 people.
The minister mentioned construction of two salting and drying centres in Namibe province and a third in Kwanza Sul province.
“Dry fish production also rose slightly. Our aim is to produce quality dry fish and reduce post-catch losses,” the minister said. (macauhub)
