Angolan’s and Chinese are amongst Portuguese bank BES’s main customers in real estate sector

Angola and China are amongst the top five origins of private foreign customers of Portuguese bank Banco Espírito Santo (BES) in the real estate sector, which in 2013 provided turnover of 464 million euros, according to financial magazine Dinheiro Vivo.

The international area accounted for 15 percent of the BEs group’s real estate sales, with Angola and China growing in importance amongst private foreign buyers, accounting for 19.2 percent and 6.7 percent, respectively.

Switzerland continued to be the source of most foreign customers (20.2 percent), and the other countries in the top five are France (16.6 percent) and Canada (7.3 percent).

In 2013, the Portuguese group sold real estate worth 464 million euros, compared to 215 million euros in 2012, having sold 3,459 units, which was a rise of 141 percent against the 1,473 units sold in 2012.

The cities of Lisbon and Porto were the most sought-after locations (accounting for 45 percent of the group’s sales). The city of Setúbal accounted for 13 percent and Faro for 6 percent. (macauhub)
