Macau posts inflation of 5.5 pct in 2013

Year-on-year inflation in Macau in 2013 totalled 5.50 percent in 2013, with the prices of home rentals and meals outside the home adding 3.8 percentage points to the rate, the region’s Statistics and Census Bureau said.

In 2013 there were substantial rises in the price indices of the categories of Housing and Fuel (9.95 percent), Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages (6.63 percent), and Health (6.48 percent) and the Communications and Education categories fell by 2.30 percent and 1.40 percent, respectively.

In December year-on-year inflation totalled 5.72 percent, with significant rises in the categories of Housing and Fuel (10.78 percent) and Food and non-Alcoholic Beverages (6.44 percent).

In monthly terms, the CPI posted a rise of 0.79 percent from November to December.

In 2012 Macau’s inflation totalled 6.11 percent. (macauhub)
