Chinese company builds Mozambique’s new Presidential Palace

27 January 2014

Mozambique’s President Armando Guebuza Friday inaugurated Mozambique’s new Presidential palace, which was built by Chinese company Anhui Foreign Economic Construction Corporation (AFECC), the Mozambican press reported.

The presidential palace, which has two floors and a view over Maputo bay, is substantially larger than the previous building, Palácio da Ponta Vermelha, where Guebuza usually receives foreign dignitaries.

The Mozambican government did not give details of the cost of the new Palace, which was funded by a loan from the Chinese government.

The Chinese state company also built the domestic and international terminal of Maputo Airport and the National Stadium. This month the company also started building a five-star hotel next to the Joaquim Chissanno conference centre costing an estimated US$250 million. (macauhub)
