Aircraft carrier from Italy promotes Italian business sector in Mozambique

28 January 2014

A mission of the Italian navy is promoting some of Italy’s most important industrial sectors in Mozambique, particularly those linked to the military, naval, furniture and decoration sectors, as part of a touring campaign that will travel to 20 countries in the Persian Gulf and Africa.

The “Cavour” aircraft carrier, which is accompanied by three other military ships, is the venue for a business fair, which has around 20 exhibitors including groups such as Fincantieri, “the world leader in cruise and merchant ship construction to support high sea platforms.”

Other companies, such as Finmeccanica, in the aeronautical and security sectors, and Beretta, an arms manufacturer, are also part of the business mission, which is representing FederlegnoArredo, an economic federation of around 1,900 Italian wood and furniture industry companies.

Speaking at the public presentation of the mission by the Italian navy Monday, the president of FederlegnoArredo, Roberto Sanidero, highlighted the importance of the initiative for the Italian economy which, he said, was still feeling the effects of the European financial crisis.

The “Country on the Move” campaign by the Italian navy will be in Maputo until 1 February and will then travel onwards to Cape Town, South Africa, and then to Luanda, Angola, where it will be moored from 15 to 19 February.

The campaign, which is scheduled to last for around six months, will travel over 36,000 kilometres and visit 20 countries before returning to Italy. (macauhub)
