Portugal Telecom (PT), the telecommunications groups that is in the process of merging with Brazil’s Oi, will bring an end to the TMN brand for the Portuguese mobile telecommunications market and all services in Portugal will now be sold under the Meo brand.

“By making this change PT is taking into account the consumer trends of its customers, as well as it strategy for its consumer area, including the residential and personal segments, which involves focusing on convergence of the fixed-line, mobile ad voice, Internet and TV services,” the Portuguese group said in a statement.

PT, in which Oi has a 10 percent stake, is Portugal’s largest communications carrier and TMN was the first mobile phone operator in Portugal.

Its biggest competitor in residential communications is Zon, whose biggest shareholder is Angolan businesswoman Isabel dos Santos, which is also one of the main mobile communications operators, via the Optimus brand. (macauhub)
