Sonair, based in Luanda, is due to take delivery, during the first and second quarters of 2014, of three new Eurocopter EC225S helicopters leased from the Milestone Aviation Group, according to the aviation group.
The arrangement was announced on Airbus Helicopters’ stand at the Heli-Expo 2014 in California, and is part of a newly launched, long-term partnership between Milestone and SonAir, to continue serving the oil and gas industry in the region.
“As the largest African oil and gas helicopter operator, we rely on the EC225, with its range, capacity and overall performance, to perform challenging missions in tropical environments. This transaction for near-term EC225 deliveries allows us to maintain our leadership position in the offshore oil and gas market”, said João Andrade, CEO of SonAir owned by Sonangol State Corporation.
The three new EC225s will join the airline’s fleet of over 25 EC225, AS332 L2 and AS365 N3 helicopters built by European consortium Airbus.
The company already has 11 EC225s in Luanda, its operating base, nine of which are used exclusively to carry oil rig equipment. (macauhub)
