Prices in Macau rise by 6.36 pct year-on-year in April

Year-on-year inflation in Macau rose by 6.36 percent in April due to rises in the price of home rentals and the price of meals outside the home and foreign travel, the Statistics and Census Bureau said.

Compared to April 2013, there were significant rises in the prices indices of the categories of housing and fuel (11.93 percent), recreation and culture (8.57 percent) and household equipment and materials for daily use (7.06 percent).

In April the Consumer price Index (CPI) rose by 0.88 percent in monthly terms and the categories of recreation and culture and alcoholic beverages and tobacco rose by 4.18 percent and 1.57 percent, respectively.

The rate of inflation, measured by the average CPI over the previous 12 months, rose by 5.78 percent following substantial rises in the price of housing and fuel (10.92 percent) and food and non-alcoholic beverages (6.48 percent). (macauhub/MO)
