Sweden provides Mozambique with budgetary aid of US$109 million

22 May 2014

The Swedish government plans to provide 720 million kroner (around US$109 million) in direct support for Mozambique’s State Budget in the 2014/2015 ºperiod, under the terms of an agreement signed Wednesday in Maputo.

Of the funding provided by Sweden, which has supported Mozambique’s State Budget since 1979, US$47.7 million will be channelled into this year’s Budget and the remainder into the Budget for 2015.

Speaking after the agreement was signed, the deputy Foreign affairs and Cooperation Minister, Henrique Banze, said that the donation was a valuable contribution to the execution of the Mozambican government’s development programme.

The Swedish ambassador in Mozambique, Ulla Andrén, said that her country would provide this amount of funding as it believed the Mozambican government was determined to continue with reforms to reduce poverty and boost democratic governance. (macauhub/MZ)
