30 May 2014

A Chinese business delegation was welcomed Thursday by the mayor of Cabo Verde’s (Cape Verde’s) Boa Vista Island, José Pinto Almeida, as part of a visit to the archipelago to find out about the market and its business opportunities, Cape Verdean weekly newspaper A Semana reported.

As well as the meeting with the local authority team, the members of the Chinese delegation also met with public and private bodies as well as companies and tour operators to look into potential areas for investment.

Last April, during a visit by the Chinese ambassador, Su Jian, to Boa Vista, Pinto Almeida proposed the possibility of scheduling a visit by Chinese investors and businesspeople.

The Chinese delegation, headed up by the chairman of the Qingdao Jinyitong group, Yang Jun, also includes the director-general of Qingdao Jinyitong International Trading Co, Qu Guangwei.

Last week, Cabo Verde’s ambassador in China, Júlio Morais, said that China was planning additional investments in Cabo Verde and was also involved in modernising shipping company Cabnave and its container terminal. (macauhub/CV/CN)
