Seminar focuses on cooperation between Rio de Janeiro and Macau

A seminar for exchange and cooperation between Rio de Janeiro and Macau in the areas of the economy and investment took place on 3 June organised by the Macau Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM).

At the session the Secretary for the Economy and Finance, Tam Pak Yuen, said that the seminar was intended to boost economic and trade cooperation as well as the ties between Macau and Rio de Janeiro and, in this way, extend economic and trade cooperation between China and the Portuguese-speaking countries, and highlight the role Of Macau as an economic and trade services platform between China and the Portuguese-speaking countries.

The president of IPIM, Jackson Chang, noted the close economic and trade ties between Macau and Brazil and added that trade with Brazil not only tied in with turning Macau into a world tourism and leisure centre, but also provided a source of goods for Macau to set up a Distribution Centre for Products from Portuguese-speaking Countries.

During the event, the Rio de Janeiro Trade Association and the Brazil-China Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Macau, the Brazilian Business and Marketing Association and the Association of Macau Advertising Companies signed cooperation agreements, with a view to boosting economic and trade cooperation as well as cooperation in the areas of tourism, promotion and advertising.

The business delegation included representatives from the Brazil-China Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Macau and a number of associations from the import-export sector, trade, cultural, and editorial services, petrochemical products, gifts and telecommunications, amongst others.
