20 June 2014

Fogo Coffee Spirit, Lda. a coffee company based in Cabo Verde (Cape Verde) in the next few days will export eight tons of coffee from Mosteiros, in Cabo Verde, to Europe and the United States (US), according to Amarílio Baessa, who is responsible for the project.

Cited by Cape Verdean weekly newspaper A Semana, Baessa said that the initial idea was to export 18 tons of coffee, but that the company decided to increase the amount of coffee sold on the domestic market adding that demand exceeded supply both nationally and internationally.

By mid July Fogo Coffee Spirit expects to export four tons of coffee that it has ready to the Netherlands and the US and the other four tons will be exported at a later date.

“It’s the largest amount ever,” said Baessa, “as in previous years exports were never more than three tons.”

Fogo Coffee Spirit, a partnership between the Association of Mosteiros Coffee Producers and Dutch company TraBocca, has made significant investments over the last few years in buying machinery and land. (macauhub/CV)
