Angola’s Huíla province exports 4,200 cubic metres of black granite in 1st quarter

Quarrying companies based in Angola’s Huíla province extracted over 12,000 cubic metres of black granite in the first quarter of this year, the provincial director for Industry, Geology and Mines said in Lubango Monday.

Paula Filomena Joaquim told Angolan news agency Angop that of that total amount 4,200 cubic metres were exported to a number of countries and the remainder was processed locally.

The provincial director said that production in the first quarter provided revenue of US$1.35 million.

Joaquim also said that black granite is quarried by 13 companies, but of these only five exported their product and the remainder chose to process the granite locally.

In 2013, Huíla province produced 32,800 cubic metres of black granite, 28,800 cubic metres of which was exported bring in US$7.97 million. (macauhub/AO)
