25 June 2014

Brazilian company Mectron, controlled by defence and technology company Odebrecht Defesa e Tecnologia (ODT), has sent its third digital data recorder (DDR) to be included in the China-Brazil satellite CBers-4, according to an official statement issued in Brasilia.

According to a statement from the Ministry for Science, Technology and Innovation, the Brazilian Space Agency (AEB/MCTI) and the National Institute ordered the third DDR for Space Research (INPE).

The Ministry also said that the DDR, which will store images of the Earth recorded by the satellite’s cameras, was the first equipment of its kind to be completely developed and manufactured in Brazil.

The Cbers-3 satellite, which was jointly developed by China and Brazil, was not put into orbit as after it was launched at the end of last year, it fell back down to Earth.

In China the digital data recorder will be added to the new satellite, which is scheduled to be launched at the beginning of December. (macauhub/CN/BR)
