Brazil has gifted a launch and two dinghies to the Sao Tome and Principe Coast Guard to boost its inspection capacity within its waters, the Brazilian ambassador to Sao Tome, José Leitão said.
Donating the vessels is part of Brazil’s defence policy to support Sao Tome and Principe as it considers the West African archipelago as a strategic country in the Gulf of Guinea, the ambassador said, cited by pan-African news agency Panapress.
On 11 April, the Brazilian Navy gifted a variety of equipment to the Sao Tome and Principe Coast Guard, including rifles, computer equipment and kitchen utensils.
Nine Brazilian military officials are currently on a year-long mission to support the Sao Tome Coast Guard, train the archipelago’s naval forces and improve response capabilities. (macauhub/BR/ST)
