Angolan state oil company Sociedade Nacional de Combustíveis de Angola (Sonangol) has hired Scottish company KCA Deutag to drill test wells in a number of offshore oil blocks, KCA Deutag said in a statement.

The two-year renewable contract is worth US$170 million and involves KCA Deutag setting up its Ben Rinnes jack-up rig in Angola.

KCA Deutag has been in the Angolan market since 2005 where, before this new contract, it manages three platform-drilling rigs.

Rune Lorentzen, president of KCA Deutag’s offshore division said his company was proud to partner with Sonangol adding that the award of the contract “is a reflection of the quality and strength of our operations.”

KCA Deutag, based in Aberdeen, Scotland, provides services to oil sector companies and employs over 9,000 staff in more than 20 countries. (macauhub/AO)
