Angolan government studies reorganisation of public electricity sector enterprises

The Angolan government is studying plans to restructure public enterprises operating in the electricity sector, according to reports on Friday after the meeting of the economic committee of the Council of Ministers in Luanda.

Information released by the committee secretariat indicated that the utilities in question are the Empresa Pública de Produção de Energia Eléctrica, Empresa Pública de Distribuição de Energia Eléctrica and Empresa Pública de Transporte de Energia Eléctrica. It provided no specific conclusions about the restructuring.

The same statement adds that proposals for spending limits to include in the next state budget and in the public investment program (PIP) for 2015 were also considered during the economic committee’s meeting.

Also considered was a proposal concerning notice about the sale of currency by the oil sector to the National Bank of Angola and another to “facilitate foreign exchange operation procedures” and also to “improve and make more flexible transfers, merchandise payments, services and other external operations.” (macauhub/AO)
