British group Diageo to reinforce investment in Mozambique

15 August 2014

The British group Diageo aims to reinforce investment already undertaken in Mozambique, said the director of its Diageo Moçambique subsidiary, Miguel Soto.

Diageo specialises in producing and marketing alcoholic beverages. In August 2013 it acquired Lusomoc, a company that would later be designated Diageo Supply Marracuene (DSML). Soto said the aim was to transform it into one of Mozambique’s most modern beverage production plants.

“The group invested nearly US$19 million in DSML, where we produce Master’s Choice and Gilbey’s gin,” he told the Maptuo daily Notícias, adding that the company would soon begin producing Smirnoff Spin gin in Marracuene.

Products produced at the Marracuene factory unit in Mozambique are destined for both domestic and export markets. Part of production currently in South Africa will soon be shifted to Mozambique, which Soto said would begin functioning as a platform for exports to neighbouring countries.

The Diageo group is present in more than 180 countries. Its beverage brand portfolio includes Johnnie Walker, Guinness, Gilbey’s, Smirnoff, J&B, Bailey’s, Tanqueray, Gordon’s, Master Choice, Captain Morgan and Crown Royal. (macauhub/MZ)
