Foreign investment in Portugal provided by the golden visa scheme has brought 817 million euros into the country since it was set up in October 2012 until 31 July of this year, the Foreign Affairs Minister said in Lisbon.
In total, 1,360 resident permits were awarded, of which around 900 were provided this year, or almost twice the number awarded in the whole of 2013.
Chinese citizens are still the biggest group to receive golden visas, with a total of 1,101, followed by Russians with 43 and Brazilians with 38.
The list of the 10 main nationalities to invest in Portugal also includes South Africa, Angola, Lebanon, Pakistan, India, Turkey and Ukraine.
The minimum requirements to be granted a golden visa are the transfer/deposit of 1 million euros or more, creation of at least 10 jobs or buying real estate worth at least 500,000 euros. (macauhub/PT/CN)
