The 50th edition of the Maputo International Fair (Facim) begins Monday in Ricatla in the Marracuene district of Mozambique’s Maputo province, bringing together some3,000national and foreign exhibitors. The fair is due to end on 31 August.
The fair’s theme this year is, “50 years exhibiting the economic potential of Mozambique” and the event is the high point of celebrations of the exhibition’s golden jubilee (1964-2014).
Figures provided by the Institute for Export Promotion (Ipex), the state body that organizes the event, showed that about 2,000Mozambican and 650 foreign companies are due to take part in the event.
At least 27 countries are expected to be represented at the fair, including first time participants from the Comoros Islands, Iceland and Norway.
On Tuesday, the second day of the exhibition, the 10th Business Meeting for Commercial and Economic Cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking countries is due to take place and its opening seminar will be attended by Mozambique’s Prime Minister, Alberto Vaquina.
The business meeting will present business opportunities in Portuguese-speaking countries and China and memoranda/protocols are due to be signed.
According to Mozambican daily newspaper Notícias over 78,000 people are expected to visit the fair this year, which is more than the 75,500 visitors who visited Facim in 2013. (macauhub/MZ)
