Public works in Angola required to use local ornamental stone

28 August 2014

Construction projects in Angola involving public funds will be required to use locally produced ornamental stone, Angola’s Minister for Geology and Mining, Francisco Queiroz said Wednesday in Luanda.

The minister also said that this requirement, which goes into effect on publication of the decree in the official gazette, “is a way of protecting the domestic ornamental stone market.”

Claiming, after visits to production sites, that there is no market for the quarried stone, Queiroz said that the purpose of the new law is to process the ornamental stone within Angola and use it in the country to prevent it from being exported in its raw state. (macauhub/AO)
