Macau increases its role as platform between China and Portuguese-speaking countries

Macau will continue to play the role of trade and services platform for Portuguese-speaking countries, said the Chief Executive of Macau Chui Sai On, at a meeting with Guangdong Province leaders in Guangzhou.

At the meeting, which was attended by Hu Chunhua, secretary of the Provincial Committee of the Chinese Communist Party, and Zhu Xiaodan, governor of Guangdong Province, Chui Sai On said that Macau, together with the provinces and regions of the Great Pearl River Delta, would continue with its efforts to strengthen cooperation towards expansion into Portuguese-speaking markets.

Chui reiterated that with the support of the central government, Macau is determined to establish itself as an international centre for tourism and leisure as well as being committed to playing the role of trade and services platform between China and the Portuguese-speaking countries .

The Macau Chief Executive also said that in addition to increasing collaboration with the provinces and regions of the Great Delta he aimed, together, to develop more new areas in the vast market for Portuguese-speaking countries.

Hu Chunhua said that at the core of the Great Delta was cooperation between Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau along with links to neighbouring provinces and municipalities, and that the platform for cooperation between Guangdong and the two special administrative regions was very important.

In Guangzhou Chui Sai On took part in the Forum for Cooperation and Development of the Great Pearl River Delta Region attended by representatives of nine Chinese provinces as well as Macau and Hong Kong. (macauhub/CN/MO)
