“Ad-hoc” committee holds Cabo Verde International Fair 2014

28 October 2014

The government of Cabo Verde (Cape Verde) has appointed an ‘ad-hoc’ committee to manage the Cabo Verde / Zona Franca SA Commercial International Fair, responsible for organising the archipelago’s trade and investment fair, local newspaper A Nação reported.

The decision was taken by the new Minister of Tourism, Investment and Enterprise Development, Leonesa Fortes, following the resignation eight months ago of the members of the Board of FIC, which could have affected the hosting of the Cabo Verde International Trade Fair as well as Expomar 2014, both of which are due to be held in November.

The order from Leonesa Fortes also said that the committee will remain in office until the appointment of a new Board of Directors by the General Meeting.

The newspaper added that the organisation of the two fairs – Expomar (6 to 8 November in São Vicente) and FIC (19 to 23 November in Praia) – was also affected by logistical constraints due to transport of material between São Vicente and Santiago to set up the stands and allow FIC 2014 to go ahead as normal.

The Minister of Tourism, Investment and Business Development also called for the “ad-hoc” committee to focus on successfully hosting FIC and to “assess the feasibility of Expomar, given the issues raised about holding two fairs almost simultaneously.” (macauhub/CV)
