Malawian Airlines this week launched twice-weekly regular flights between Lilongwe and Beira International Airport, in Mozambique, according to daily newspaper Diario de Mozambique.
As well as offering flights between Lilongwe and Beira, the Malawian Airlines offers flights between the capital of Malawi and the capital cities of the Mozambican central provinces of Tete and northern Nampula.
At a ceremony after the arrival of the flight at Beira airport, the permanent secretary of the government of the province of Sofala, Claudine Mazalo, said the flights were crucial due to the enormous challenges faced because of increased coal production.
“The introduction of flights from Lilongwe to Beira reduces the difficulties faced by businesspeople, by reducing costs and travel time, compared with the same journey by road,” the permanent secretary said. (macauhub/MZ)
