The Lotus Flower Bridge/Hengqin Island border post between Macao and Zhuhai, will be open 24 hours per day from 18 December, government spokesman Alexis Tam said Thursday in Macau.
The border post will work 24 hours a day for Macau residents, imported workers, students and tourists, as well as cars and coaches with dual registration. Hours for goods vehicles will remain unchanged from 08h00 to 20h00.
Hengqin Island, which borders the area of Cotai in Macau, was chosen by China as a new economic development region. The University of Macau is located on Hengqin island, where a zone has been earmarked for investment by Macau companies.
Starting on the same day, the Portas do Cerco/Gongbei border post will have its opening hours extended by two hours, with the opening being brought forward to 6.00 a.m. and closing at 1.00 a.m. the next day.
The Zhuhai-Macau Cross Border Industrial Park border post will be open, for now, between Midnight and 7 a.m. but only for passage on foot by imported workers, students and residents of Macau.
The government spokesman said that the extension of opening hours at border crossings between Macau and Zhuhai is a measure put in place by the central government to benefit the people of Macau.(macauhub/CN/MO)
