The recovery of the Mucoso Irrigated Perimeter in the Angolan province of Kwanza Norte, one of the most important agricultural projects in the sector in Angola, is due to inaugurated Wednesday, Angola’s Ministry of Agriculture said in a statement.
The work, which cost 1.3 billion kwanza (US$12.6 million), included, along with the recovery of the agricultural perimeter, building homes for technicians, service areas and other support equipment, in particular to provide a water supply.
The recovery of the perimeter, in the city of Dondo, was carried out by Spanish company Incatema and also involved the recovery of more than 20 kilometres of roads.
The project will be opened by the Minister of Agriculture, Afonso Pedro Canga, and is due to start producing fruit and vegetables this month, in an initial area of 500 hectares.
According to the 2015 State Budget agriculture is expected to lead the growth of the Angolan non-oil sector this year. (macauhub/AO)
