Angolan central bank has new governor

19 January 2015

Angola’s President dismissed the governor of the National Bank of Angola (BNA) José de Lima Massano, and has appointed José Pedro de Morais to replace him, the Angolan press reported.

The new governor of the BNA has already held several important State roles in Angola, and his last position was Minister of Finance in 2002, having left the government in 2008 to go into the private sector.

José de Lima Massano, who requested to leave, was appointed by presidential decree on 5 October 2010.

As governor of the BNA, last summer Massano took on the management of the Banco Espírito Santo Angola (BESA) situation, which ended in October with a capital increase to absorb bad loans in the bank, its transformation into an Economic Bank and Sonangol taking a stake in the restructured bank.
