A factory with capacity to process 1,000 tons of beans per year is due to be operating within a few months in Lichinga, the capital of Niassa province, and its target markets have been identified, said the factory’s managing director.
Augusto Kuntuela was cited by daily newspaper Diário de Moçambique, published in Beira, as saying that the project is an initiative of Sociedade Malonda that is intended to motivate farmers to increase their production areas and support the sale of beans produced in Niassa.
The machines were bought in Japan and China, and within a few months a technician is due to arrive to assemble them and train staff that will work in the factory, Kuntuela said.
The beans processed in the factory will be exported to Portugal and Spain, after Sociedade Malonda reached an agreement with importers from those countries who participated in the 2014 Maputo International Fair.
The managing director also said that in addition to domestic sales, those two countries will be the factory’s first export markets. (macauhub/MZ/PT)
