27 February 2015

China will grant US$50 million to Mozambique to finance the construction of a Mozambique-China Cultural Centre, under the terms of two agreements signed Thursday in Maputo.

According to the documents signed by Deputy Foreign and Cooperation Minister, Nyeleti Mondlane and by the Chinese ambassador to Mozambique, Li Chunhua, half of the amount will be provided as an interest-free loan and the other half is a donation, in order to speed up the implementation of the project.

Mondlane said she was satisfied with the support of the Chinese government for various development projects in Mozambique and the Chinese ambassador mentioned work was due to start in the first half of this year.

The Mozambique-China Cultural Centre will be built on the campus of Eduardo Mondlane University in Maputo, and will include an amphitheater with over 1,500 seats and an auditorium with up to 50 seats, according to Mozambican news agency AIM. (macauhub/CN/MZ)
