Cabo Verde requests funding from World Bank for completion of road

10 March 2015

The Integrated Tourism Development Corporation of Boa Vista and Maio islands (SDTIBM) will submit a proposal to the World Bank to finance a 5-kilometre section of road, said the SDTIBM chairman.

The 5-kilometre section is the last section of the 20-kilometre road connecting the Aristides Pereira International Airport to the Lacacão Tourism Development Zone.

The chairman of SDTIBM, Avelino Bonifácio, told the Cape Verdean weekly newspaper A Semana the financing proposal was presented this week to World Bank staff via conference call and said they had been receptive to it and he was therefore confident that the proposal would be approved.

“There are only 5 kilometres to complete this road that ends in one of the most important tourist areas of the island, Lacacão,” he said.

The official presentation of the financial proposal is scheduled for next April, as part of a larger project of the central government aimed at training SDTIBM and Cabo Verde Investimentos staff in putting together business portfolios. (macauhub/CV)
