Visa, the global payments network, recently announced that its customers, Mozambique’s financial institutions, had achieved a new record in the country by issuing over 3 million Visa cards.
The record also represents an increase of 15 percent in the value of transactions using Visa cards in Mozambique, to the extent that the banking sector is bringing more people to formal financial services, according to Mozambican news agency AIM.
The Director-General of Visa for sub-Saharan Africa, Jabu Basopo, congratulated the partners and financial institutions on the record and said the aim was to get more people into the formal banking system through access to electronic banking services and systems.
Visa is a global payments technology company that connects consumers, merchants, financial institutions and governments in more than 200 countries and territories to fast, cheap and reliable electronic payments. (macauhub/MZ)
