China and Brazil study partnership in technology parks

Representatives of the Brazilian Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation have met in Brasilia with the Deputy Minister of Science and Technology of China, Cao Jianlin who heads a Chinese delegation to Brazil.

The two countries have a wide area of ​​cooperation in the fields of science, technology and innovation in sectors such as nanotechnology and biology, according to Brazilian news website Portal Brasil

The Chinese delegation expressed interest in expanding cooperation with Brazil to cover the technology parks, an area in which China has extensive know-how.

“Today, 13 percent of China’s gross domestic product [GDP] China comes from technology parks. China has used the technology parks as important instruments of economic and even social development. They treat the technology parks as innovation environments; these initiatives are more expanded than in Brazil,” said Álvaro Prata, executive secretary of the Brazilian Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI).

The MCTI and the National Association of Entities Promoting Innovative Initiatives (Anprotec) this year will organise a Sino-Brazilian seminar on technology parks to be held in the São José dos Campos Technology Park, in São Paulo.

The CBers space programme (China-Brazil Earth Resources Satellite) was also discussed at the meeting held at the MCTI including the next developments of the partnership that could lead to construction of rockets. (macauhub/BR/CN)
