Mozambique exports bananas to Zambia

The Macate district in the province of Manica, Mozambique in the latest season exported about 60,000 kilos of bananas to Zambia, Mozambican daily newspaper Noticias reported.

Banana cultivation in Macate, still on an experimental level, is the responsibility of a partnership between the Fruta do Ouro and Fruta de Manica companies.

According to local administrator Moguene Materisso Candieiro in the current year (2014/2015) the Macate district plans to export 75,212 tons of bananas harvested from an area of ​​about 6,300 hectares, involving about 19,000 families.

Moguene Candieiro said that a group of Chinese, Malaysian and South African businesspeople were interested in investing in banana production in the Macate district.

Macate is the largest banana producing area in Manica province. (macauhub/MZ)
