Angola to begin exploiting gold in Huíla province in 2016

14 May 2015

The mining of gold deposits at Limpopo, 315 km east of Lubango in Angola’s Huíla province, will start in 2016 after the prospecting phase ends this year, the provincial director for Industry, Geology and Mines said.

Paula Joaquim told Angop news agency that she did not have a precise date when the deposits would begin to be exploited, but explained that prospecting is progressing at a good pace and should be finished in late 2015.

Joaquim added that early results from the prospecting begun in 2012 are encouraging, because they indicate the presence of large amounts of quality gold, which should help boost the provincial economy.
