Cooperation between China and Cabo Verde (Cape Verde) “has set a good example for relations between countries of different sizes and political systems,” a leading figure of the Communist Party of China (CPC) said on Tuesday in Beijing.
Guo Jinlong made his comments when welcoming the new head of the African Party for the Independence of Cabo Verde (PAICV), Janira Hopffer Almada. He highlighted the fact that China and Cabo Verde have always “mutually respected and supported” each other.
The 68-year old Guo, a former mayor of Beijing, is one of 25 members of the CPC Politburo.
He indicated his readiness for “closer exchanges” with the PAICV. Almada said in turn that her party views the CPC as “a strategic partner”, reports China’s Xinhua news agency.
On Monday Almada began a six-day visit to China, which includes a trip to the Zhuhai special economic zone bordering Macau in the south of the country.
The PAICV considers Chinese cooperation to be “exemplary”, highlighting various “structural achievements for Cabo Verde”, namely the Parliament building, Government Palace, National Library and National Football Stadium, the party indicated in a statement released on the occasion of Almada’s visit.
