Angola’s 2nd International Fisheries and Aquaculture Fair attended by companies from eight countries

Companies from countries such as Brazil, Spain, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Vietnam and Turkey, in addition to Angola, are participating in the 2nd edition of the Angola International Fair for Fisheries and Aquaculture, announced the Minister of Fisheries, Vitória de Barros Neto.

The minister said that the event, taking place from 26 to 29 November 2015, on the premises of the Luanda International Fair (Filda), under the theme “Fisheries and Aquaculture Angola, Tide of Opportunities in a Sector in Development” will feature over 100 Angolan and foreign companies.

Organised by the Ministry of Fisheries, the International Fair for Fisheries and Aquaculture has capacity to receive 4,000 visitors in an exhibition area of 5,000 square metres. Its main aim is to promote the introduction of new techniques and technologies adaptable to the fisheries production process and to strengthen the scientific research system.

Fish production in Angola in 2014 reached about 396,000 tons, including industrial, semi-industrial, artisanal and sea and inland fishing, 6.3 percent above the target set by the Ministry of Fisheries.

In 2014 Angola exported 41,287 tons of seafood, fish and fishmeal, 1.4 million litres of fish oil and opened several industries to support the fishing sector, including artisanal fishing and support for female fish processors in coastal provinces (Namibe, Kwanza Norte and Benguela). (macauhub/AO)
