Guinea-Bissau Agricultural Fair scheduled to start 29 May in Bafatá

28 May 2015

The 2015 edition of the Guinea-Bissau Agricultural Fair begins Friday in Bafatá, the country’s second city that gives name to the region where it is located, said Wednesday in Bissau the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Hipólito Djata, chief of staff of the Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development, John Anibal Pereira, said that on the same day the government would officially open the 2015 agricultural season.

Djata said that the fair would help promote Guinean agricultural products in the regional market and would also demonstrate new technologies used by farmers to improve yields.

Djata also said the government would take advantage of this event to carry out awareness campaigns among livestock farmers to increase their herds, which is the focus of the new agricultural season.

The Guinea-Bissau government organises trade fairs to exhibit a variety of agricultural products produced in the country and generally purchased by traders from the capital or neighbouring countries for further resale. (macauhub/GW)
