President of Angola to visit China next week

3 June 2015

The official visit to China by the President of Angola, whose invitation was announced Monday, will take place next week, a diplomatic source said Tuesday in Beijing.

The source also told Portuguese news agency Lusa that José Eduardo dos Santos is expected to arrive in Beijing on Monday for his first visit in almost seven years, and will stay in China until 12 June.

On Monday, in Luanda, the Chinese ambassador to Angola, Gao Kexiang, announced that the Angolan President would visit China “very soon to further deepen the good bilateral relationship” but did not give dates.

Eduardo dos Santos visited China for the last time in December 2008 and four months before that he attended the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympic Games.

The Chinese President, Xi Jinping, visited Angola in 2010, when he was vice president of China, and the current prime minister, Li Keqiang, visited Luanda in May 2014. (macauhub/AO/CN)
